Otarawairere Bay
Otarawairere is part of the Kohi Point Walkway included in the larger network of walks included in the Nga Tapuwae o Toi Walkways. It can only be accessed by foot and is one of the most enjoyed family recreation activities in Ohope. Otarawairere is 20 minutes walk up over the headland from Ohope West End. People of any fitness can enjoy the walk.
Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Otarawairere Bay. The Beaches are private, especially in the winter off-season, and divers, bathers and beachcombers enjoy the sheltered waters, rock pools and admiring the many shells. Take the picnic gear and stay for the day, a great family day out.
Getting there
Getting there: The walk to Otarawairere Bay is part of the Kohi Point walkway, which is part of the network of walks forming the Nga Tapuwai o Toi or Footsteps of Toi loop walkway. There are various points where you can join the walkway, view the Whakatane Tracks & Walks Map to map your walk. Otarawairere is an approximate 20 minutes walk up over the headland from west end Ohope. People of any fitness can enjoy this walk, please note it is steep in parts. Carry on the walk and it will take you over the Kohi Point and down into the CBD of Whakatane (about 2 hours).
