Maraetotara Reserve is a popular reserve and playground. Facilities include electric barbecues, toilets, exercise equipment and campervan parking. Ohiwa Harbour Reserves
Inland from the eastern end of Ohope is the Ohiwa Harbour. There is safe swimming here and plenty of space for beach fishing. Toilets and other facilities are at Otao South Reserve, Port Ōhope Wharf Reserve and the Port Ōhope Recreation Reserve.
Otao South Reserve
Located near the Port Ohope General Store is a well equipped Playground overlooking the Ohiwa Harbour. This playground is one of the smaller ones but has everything your kids need to have fun. When the tide is low many children can be seen exploring the mud flats and looking for crabs. There are also toilets conveniently located here.
Port Ohope Recreation Reserve
Opposite the Ohope International Golf Club you will find a reserve with a boat ramp and water ski area that is a popular summer time spot. Walking access is provided to the harbour entrance. Swimming near the car park is popular, but be aware that strong currents nearer to the harbour entrance make swimming and kayaking more hazardous as you approach this area.
